Antique Japanese Jizai Kagi – Rare Tai (Sea Bream) Shape – Meiji Era
This is a beautifully preserved antique Japanese Jizai Kagi (hearth hook), crafted in the shape of a Tai (sea bream), a rare and highly symbolic fish in Japanese culture. Most Jizai Kagi are carved in the shape of a carp (Koi), making this Tai version an uncommon and valuable find.
Period: Meiji Era (circa late 19th to early 20th century)
Condition: There are stains, scratches and cracks due to age.
Covered in original soot from years of use over a traditional Japanese irori (hearth)
Authenticity: Genuine Japanese craftsmanship from the Meiji period
