Description

This is a Japanese Shino ware matcha tea bowl (chawan) crafted by the potter Azuma Suimei, complete with its original signed wooden storage box (tomobako).

The bowl features a thick, textured white feldspathic glaze with characteristic reddish-orange fire marks (hiiro). It is decorated with an underglaze iron-brown painted motif of a Japanese bush warbler (uguisu) perched on a bamboo branch. The unglazed foot ring reveals the natural reddish-brown clay, and the interior displays a distinct speckled pattern from the glaze pooling and firing process.
