Description
This is an antique Tsuboya pottery unglazed Tokkuri (sake bottle) from the Ryukyu Kingdom period, commonly referred to as “Oni no Ude” (Uninuti), meaning “Demon’s Arm.”
Tsuboya ware is the representative pottery of Okinawa, known for its unglazed yakishime (high-fired) style, which beautifully captures the rustic texture and natural kiln effects.
This piece reflects the powerful and organic form characteristic of early Ryukyu folk ceramics.
