Description


This is an antique Japanese cast bronze figurine depicting Bodhidharma, known as Daruma in Japan. The piece is a solid, heavy metal representation of the Zen Buddhism founder, traditionally kept as an auspicious decorative item or scholar's object.

The statue shows Daruma in a seated, meditative posture enveloped in a thick flowing robe that drapes down to form the base. He is depicted with characteristic wide, intense eyes, thick eyebrows, a beard, and large hoop earrings. The bronze surfaces feature a dark, oxidized finish with prominent areas of natural green copper verdigris, particularly inside the hollow base and along the folds of the garment.
