Description

This is an antique Japanese tsuzumi, a traditional hourglass-shaped hand drum. It is a historical musical instrument closely associated with traditional performing arts such as Noh theater.

The drum features a black lacquered wooden body decorated with gold-colored maki-e style motifs of stylized botanical and geometric patterns. The assembly includes the central wooden body, two drumheads (skins), and a reddish-brown tension cord.

Height: 25.0 cm / 9.84 in
Width: 20.0 cm / 7.87 in
Depth: 20.0 cm / 7.87 in
Weight: 912 g / 2.01 lbs

The item is in antique condition, showing signs of aging. The lacquered body exhibits minor wear, scratches, and slight losses. The drumhead skins are intact without tears or structural damage, but there are marks resembling pencil or crayon lines on the surface. Please note that the tension cord assembly is incomplete; it includes only the vertical cord (tate-shirabe) and is missing the horizontal cord (yoko-shirabe) required for proper pitch adjustment, although the drum still produces sound. The instrument may require replacement parts for full musical use.
