■ Description Item Details This is a powerful and historically significant Japanese Antique Hanging Scroll (Kakejiku). It features a hand-painted depiction on Silk (Kenpon) of Tosho Daigongen (Tokugawa Ieyasu) and the famous Tokugawa Sixteen Generals (Tokugawa Juroku-sho).

  • Subject:

    • Center Top: The central figure is Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Edo Shogunate, deified as Tosho Daigongen. He is depicted in a seated, authoritative pose.

    • The Generals: Surrounding him are his sixteen most loyal and capable generals (including Honda Tadakatsu, Ii Naomasa, Sakai Tadatsugu, and Sakakibara Yasumasa). These warriors helped unify Japan and establish the peaceful Edo period.

    • "Zenjin" (Good Deities): The scroll is sometimes referred to as the "Sixteen Good Deities," drawing a parallel between these samurai protectors and Buddhist guardian deities.

  • Significance: This subject represents loyalty, military prowess, success in life, and protection. It is a perfect piece for anyone interested in Samurai history or Japanese feudal culture.

  • Technique: Hand-painted with pigments on silk.
