This is an antique Japanese "Nobento" (sageju), a traditional portable picnic set used during the Edo to Meiji periods for outdoor excursions. It comes with a wooden storage box.

The set includes a carrying frame, a four-tiered food box (jubako), small serving trays, and a pair of tin sake flasks (tokkuri). The wooden components are finished with black lacquer and decorated with traditional gold and red "maki-e" (sprinkled metallic powder) techniques, featuring floral and leafy vine motifs.

The item is in antique condition, showing signs of aging and use. The lacquer surface exhibits natural wear, scratches, and areas of peeling or chipping, including a warp on the lid of the food box and small chips on the front and back of the top tier's center. There is a crack on the lower part of the food box, which slightly extends to the interior. The tin flasks have surface indentations, tarnishing, and scuffs. The wooden storage box shows natural wood discoloration, surface wear, and a split. It can still be used or enjoyed as a display piece.
