Description

This is a rare and highly collectible pair of antique Japanese viewing stone spheres, crafted from "Sarasa-ishi" (Sarasa stone) mined from Mount Kinsho (Kinshozan) in Gifu Prefecture. Mount Kinsho is historically renowned for its unique geological formations and high-quality brecciated marble.

These polished spheres are celebrated as "Goshiki Sarasa" (Five-color Sarasa). They feature mesmerizing, natural, and complex patterns of deep black, reddish-brown, and creamy white, which closely resemble traditional Indian Sarasa dyed textiles. They are exceptionally tactile, weighty, and can be appreciated as scholar's desk objects (Suiseki) or held in the hands.

**Provenance & Authenticity:** This set comes with its original wooden box (Tomobako). According to the historical inscription on the back of the box lid, these stones were collected and recorded in "April, Meiji 7" (1874) and bear the name of a previous collector. This solidifies their status as genuine antiques, holding 150 years of history.

Size (Per Ball):
Diameter: Approx. 6.8 cm / 2.68 in

Weight:
Total for 2 balls: 934 g / 2.06 lbs

The stone spheres are in excellent antique condition, retaining a beautiful polished surface.
