Antique Imari Porcelain Plate – Fuyō-de Style – Edo Period, Enpō Era (1673–1681)

This is a fine example of an Imari porcelain plate in the Fuyō-de style, believed to have been produced during the Enpō era of the Edo period (late 17th century). The central design features bamboo and orchid—motifs that reflect the literati aesthetic influenced by Chinese taste, which was widely appreciated in Japan at the time.

The rim is decorated with alternating panels of floral and geometric patterns, showcasing the hallmark characteristics of the Fuyō-de style. This decorative approach, which emerged in the mid to late 17th century, is highly valued for its symmetry and refined elegance.

Historical Background:
This piece is considered one of the export porcelains produced during the early stages of Japan’s international trade. During the Enpō era, Imari ware was widely exported to Europe through the Dutch East India Company. Plates like this one were especially popular among European nobility and wealthy merchants for their sophisticated design and exotic appeal.

Condition:
