Description

The "Inome" Motif: The heart-shaped cutouts, known as Inome (literally "Boar's Eye"), are one of Japan's oldest traditional motifs. Far from representing modern romance, the Boar's Eye was used by Samurai and in temple architecture to ward off evil spirits and protect the wearer from misfortune.

Aesthetic & Quality: The tsuba is crafted from forged iron (Tetsu-ji) with a rich, dark patina that has developed over centuries. The four-way symmetry of the openwork (Sukashi) creates a balanced and elegant silhouette against the rugged, weathered texture of the iron. This piece is a wonderful example of Wabi-sabi—finding beauty in the aged and the elemental.

Whether for a collector of Japanese weaponry or an admirer of historic metalwork, this tsuba offers a profound sense of history and spiritual protection.
