Japanese Antique Wooden Sorakagi Hearth Hook Irori Tool with Bone Chigiri Repair Meiji Era

Description:
This is an authentic Japanese antique Sorakagi (空鉤), a traditional wooden hook used above the irori (sunken hearth) during the Meiji period. A sorakagi differs from a jizai kagi in its compact, curved form and was used to suspend kettles and cooking tools in traditional Japanese homes.

The surface is beautifully darkened from decades of hearth use, and the edges are naturally worn smooth. The piece features bone inlays in the shape of butterflies, applied using the traditional "Chigiri" technique—symbolizing not only reinforcement but also a spiritual sense of connection or bond.

Though there are visible cracks due to drying, the piece is structurally stable and solid, retaining both its functionality and folk art appeal.

Ideal for collectors of Japanese antique hearth tools, wabi-sabi interior objects, or mingei (folk craft).
