Vintage Japanese Chestnut Wood Round Trays Set of 2 Odate Shinmeisha Festival
Beschreibung
This is a remarkable set of two vintage Japanese round trays (marubon) crafted from chestnut wood (kuri). They feature a beautiful reddish-brown finish that perfectly highlights the strong, natural wood grain characteristic of chestnut.
These trays carry significant cultural and historical value. The bold black kanji characters painted on the surface read "清豊講" (Seihoko). Seihoko is a traditional local group responsible for operating the majestic festival floats (dashi) during the eve of the famous Odate Shinmeisha Shrine Grand Festival in Akita Prefecture. These trays were likely used during the festival gatherings or ceremonies by the members of this specific group.
Size (Approximate per tray):
Diameter: 23.5 cm / 9.25 in
Height: 2.5 cm / 0.98 in
Weight (Total for both): 420 g / 0.93 lbs
Condition:
These trays are in rustic vintage condition, showing clear signs of historical use and age. **Please note:** As clearly shown in the close-up photos, BOTH trays have a single, visible crack on the outer rim. Additionally, there are overall surface scratches, scuffs, and some fading/wear to the painted kanji characters. They possess a strong "wabi-sabi" aesthetic but are sold as-is with noted structural wear.
Please check the photos carefully for details.
