This bronze bell was originally dedicated to a temple in Kofu City in December of Showa 24 (1949). The name of the foundry master is inscribed on the surface, indicating that it was crafted at a reputable foundry. The detailed workmanship and quality of the casting reflect its high level of craftsmanship.
This is a large Japanese bronze temple bell (bonshō), traditionally used in Buddhist temples across Japan. The bell dates from the Showa period and features classic temple bell elements, including rows of protruding knobs (chi) and a prominent strike point (tsuki-za) on its surface.
Crafted from heavy bronze, the bell has developed a natural patina over time, with green and brown oxidized tones that enhance its historic character. The dragon-shaped handle (ryūzu) at the top is detailed and symbolic, representing protection and spiritual power.
