Japanese Antique Kakemono Hanging Scroll Hakuzosu White Fox Monk Paper Boxed
This is an antique Japanese hanging scroll (kakemono) featuring a painting of Hakuzosu, the legendary white fox disguised as a Buddhist monk. The artwork is executed in ink and light color on paper and bears the signature and seal of Morimachi Bumbun, an Osaka-born artist who studied under Kawabata Gyokusho.
The composition depicts the anthropomorphic fox figure wrapped in a pale blue hood and dark garments, standing amidst wild grass beneath a minimalist representation of the moon. The scroll is framed by a patterned textile mount and comes accompanied by its wooden storage box and an outer protective cardboard slipcase.
