Japanese Antique Ko-Bizen Stoneware Jar Vase Muromachi Momoyama Period Box

This is an antique Japanese Bizen stoneware jar (Ko-Bizen) dating from the Muromachi to Momoyama period (15th-16th century). It is a traditional unglazed vessel fired at high temperatures, a technique known as yakishime.

The jar features a coarse, earth-toned surface with natural ash glaze and kiln effects. A distinctive incised wavy line pattern (nami-mon) is visible around the shoulder. The vessel has a wide mouth and a robust, functional form characteristic of early Bizen pottery production.

Condition:
There is a significant chip on the rim, as shown in the photographs. The surface exhibits characteristic kiln marks, natural clay impurities, and extensive signs of aging consistent with its several-hundred-year history. The wooden storage box shows wear and age.
