1993 Chinese Unmounted Ink Painting Makuri Snow Scene Willow Horse Riders

This is an unmounted Chinese ink and color painting on paper, known in Japan as a makuri. It is dated 1993 and appears to be inscribed as painted in Chang'an, the historical name of present-day Xi'an.

The painting depicts a poetic landscape with figures riding horses beneath large sweeping willow trees, while two figures stand within a traditional pavilion in the background. The scene is rendered mainly in expressive black and grey ink wash, with touches of purple, yellow, red, and blue adding subtle color.

Numerous white splashes and dots create a dramatic snow-like atmosphere throughout the composition. The inscription appears to include the title “Ba Liu Fei Xue” (灞柳飛雪), although some characters are stylized and difficult to read with complete certainty. A red artist's seal is also present.

Condition:
