Description
This is a rare antique Japanese wooden statue of Myoken Bodhisattva, enshrined in a red lacquered portable Zushi cabinet. Myoken is a celestial deity associated with the North Star and protection in esoteric Buddhism, and was sometimes venerated secretly by Hidden Christians (Kakure Kirishitan) during times of persecution in Japan.
